Celtx is the best free software on the market. If you are new to screenwriting, this is a good introductory software to begin with.
Protecting Your Work
U.S. Copyright Office offers the best protection to writers. You can register your work both online and through mail, however, it can take up to several months before your work is processed.
Writer’s Guild of America West Registry offers protection as well. The protection is considered weaker than the U.S. Copyright Office’s protection, but it is cheaper and much quicker.
Literary Agents and Scams
Absolute Write is a wonderful resource for writers. Their forums has a section dedicated to literary agents. Forum members post their personal experiences working with those agents.
Screenplay Contests
Nicholl Fellowship is widely considered to be the most prestigious contest for screenwriters.
